REV\u00c9\u00a0in capsules is a natural source of vitamin E,\u00a0d-<\/strong>\u03b1<\/strong>-tocopherol<\/strong>, which favours the\u00a0protection against\u00a0oxidative free radicals<\/strong>. The most biologically active antioxidant is d-\u03b1-tocopherol.<\/p>\n

REV\u00c9 provides 268mg\u00a0natural vitamin E equivalent to 400 IU.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0richest food sources of vitamin E are edible plant oils.\u00a0Cereal grains and nuts, beans and seeds also provide significant amounts of vitamin E.<\/p>\n

Vitamin E and the antioxidant effect<\/strong><\/p>\n

Vitamin E is the name given to a group of water-insoluble plant substances<\/strong>. There are eight natural forms, being\u00a0d-alpha-tocopherol the most biologically active form<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0activity of vitamin E is traditionally expressed in terms of equivalents of this form<\/strong>, that is, equivalents of alpha-tocopherol in mg or \u03b1-TE.3<\/sup><\/p>\n

The\u00a0major sources of vitamin E are fats and oils<\/strong>. It is also found in some vegetables, in\u00a0meat, poultry and fish fats<\/strong>\u00a0and, to a lesser extent, in cereals and dairy products. About\u00a0half of the tocopherol in wheat germ<\/strong>, sunflower, safflower, canola, olive, and cottonseed\u00a0oils<\/strong>\u00a0is \u03b1-tocopherol, but soya bean and corn oils contain about 10 times more \u03b3-tocopherol than \u03b1-tocopherol.2,3<\/sup><\/p>\n

Most of the vitamin E is found in foods containing fat.\u00a0Absorption requires fat content in food for intestinal absorption<\/strong>, along with bile and pancreatic secretions.2,3<\/sup><\/p>\n

What are oxidative free radicals and how does vitamin E help?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Oxidative free radicals or reactive oxygen species<\/strong>\u00a0(ROS) are generated in biochemical processes (for example the respiratory process) and as a result of exposure to external factors (radiation, pollutants). These\u00a0reactive intermediates can damage molecules such as DNA, proteins and lipids<\/strong>\u00a0if they are not intercepted by the antioxidant network, which includes free radical scavengers like antioxidant nutrients.1<\/sup><\/p>\n

Vitamin E works physiologically as an antioxidant that captures free radicals and prevents the spread of lipid peroxidation. Vitamin E is part of the antioxidant defence system,\u00a0<\/strong>which is a complex network including endogenous and dietary antioxidants, antioxidant enzymes and repair mechanisms, with mutual interactions and synergistic effects between the various components.1<\/sup><\/p>\n

Vitamin E is effective when protecting the integrity of lipids and phospholipids<\/strong>\u00a0in cell membranes and, therefore, its presence and recommended intake is largely determined by the amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) consumed.\u00a0Increased PUFA content in a diet low in\u00a0<\/strong>\u03b1<\/strong>–tocopherol\u00a0equivalents\u00a0<\/strong>has been shown\u00a0to have got adverse effects on tocopherol status<\/strong>.1,2<\/sup><\/p>\n
